On the 17th May 2018, a hundred of the UK’s top architects and designers competed in a 5K race in London’s Hyde Park. The event, ‘HD5K’ was conceived and organised by Hayes Davidson, and raised over £60,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Alan Davidson, the founder of Hayes Davidson, was diagnosed with MND in 2012.
Practices competing included AL_A, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Allies and Morrison, Amin Taha, Assael Architecture, Caro Communications, Chris Dyson, Coffey Architects, Cullinan Studio, Expedition Engineering, GDR, Heah & Co, Heatherwick Studio, Hemingway Design, HOK, Hopkins Architects, Howard Pease, Jason Bruges Studio, JLL, John McAslan & Partners, John Pawson, John Robertson Architects, Levitt Bernstein, Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, Lipton Rogers, London Communications Agency, ORMS, Penoyre & Prasad, Pilbrow and Partners, PLP, Rockwell Property, Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners, Speirs and Major, Stirling & Co, Studio Egret West, Takero Shimazaki and Zaha Hadid Architects.
HD5K was sponsored by Dezeen, the Design Museum, Vitra and The World Architectural Festival (WAF), with prizes including complementary passes to WAF, Ton Hoop bowls, memberships of the Design Museum, Marset ‘FollowMe’ lamps, Ali Tomlin vases and the George Nelson Fan Clock by Vitra. The event was supported by the Alan Davidson Foundation which match-funded all donations made.
First place was taken by Giacomo Pelizzari of Takero Shimazaki Architects who ran the course in 17:29 and Hannah Smith of London Communications Agency who ran in 20:24 Second place in the run was taken by James Ellis of PLP Architecture who ran the course in 18:16 and Cheryl Evans of Allford Hall Monaghan Morris who ran in 20:34.Third place in the run was taken by Rufus Stirling of Stirling & Co who ran in 18:26 and Cathy Jeremiah of Assael Architecture who ran in 21:13.
The prize for the runner who raised the most funds on Just Giving was awarded to Carolyn Larkin of Caro Communications.
