ACORN Project

The Alan Davidson Foundation has renewed its partnership with the University of Oxford and the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences for a further three years, continuing support for the groundbreaking “Making MND Preventable – ACORN” project.

This critical study focuses on inherited cases of Motor Neuron Disease (MND), aiming to recruit both patients and asymptomatic family members. By studying these individuals, the research seeks to deepen the understanding of the causes of MND, as well as to explore potential treatments and preventive measures that could significantly alter the course of the disease.

In addition to its ongoing support for the ACORN project, the Foundation has committed to funding one-third of the cost for a new Clinical Research Fellow position, which will be established from Autumn 2025.

This new role will play a vital part in advancing the research objectives and furthering progress in MND prevention and treatment. The Foundation’s continued investment in this project underscores its dedication to improving the lives of individuals living with MND and advancing scientific knowledge in the field.
