The Davidson Prize 2021

The Alan Davidson Foundation is delighted to be launching The Davidson Prize 2021, a new architectural prize rewarding innovative concepts that imaginatively rethink the design of the contemporary home.
The Davidson Prize 2021

One of Alan’s wishes was for the Foundation to create a new architecture prize focussing on the design of a contemporary home. Home was important to Alan, as an architect, he strongly believed that every human should have a home, as a right. He particularly supported various charities helping those who do not have a place they call home.

Later on, when MND took hold of him, he was confined a lot to his home and it became his world. This reaffirmed and inspired him to create a new architecture prize. He wanted to encourage architects to not only explore new ideas around the home but also collaborate with visualisers, filmmakers, designers, artists, technologists to help them get their ideas across. Storytelling was always at the heart of Alan’s approach.

Having left us only a few notes about his vision for the prize, we set out on a journey that saw us “get the band back together”. We were very touched that so many of his friends, colleagues and peers offered to help make his wish come true.

Find out all about the prize here, share widely and if you are entering, best of luck!
