Alan’s Film: A moving tribute to Alan Davidson’s life and legacy

The foundation are proud to share Alan’s Film — a deeply personal and moving new short film about the life of Alan Davidson.

Created for the Alan Davidson Foundation by Ben Mann of Proper Good Films, part of the winning team of the 2024 Davidson Prize, the film uses innovative AI technology to recreate Alan’s voice as he reads a letter he wrote to his friends and family shortly before he passed away in 2018. His words, spoken in his “own” voice, form the emotional heart of the film.

Alan’s Film offers an intimate glimpse into Alan’s remarkable life, combining family memories, photographs, video footage, and reflections from those who knew and loved him. Friends, colleagues, and loved ones share stories that bring to life Alan’s wit, warmth, and extraordinary vision.

The film also explores Alan’s profound impact on the world of architecture. As the founder of Hayes Davidson, he was a pioneer in architectural visualisation — helping to shape how buildings are imagined, communicated, and understood. His work, and the collaborative studio he built, continues to inspire the next generation of designers and visual artists.

It also shows his experience with Motor Neurone Disease with honesty and candour with touching testimonies from people who supported him through it.

This film is a celebration of Alan’s creativity, courage, and generosity. We hope it brings his story to life in a new way and offers a moment of reflection on the values he held dear.
