Announcing the Davidson Nurses: Supporting MND-SMART across the UK

As part of the Foundation’s funding commitment to MND Smart, a portion has been allocated to create new nursing positions in five key locations across the UK, establishing a dedicated ‘Davidson Nurse’ in each area. These nurses will play a crucial role in recruiting participants for this important MND trial, making the trial more accessible to people living with MND throughout the country. The addition of these nurses will help ensure that more individuals can benefit from cutting-edge research and treatment opportunities.

The first five centres selected to host these new positions include:

  1. Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic (Edinburgh)
  2. Craigavon Area Hospital (Northern Ireland)
  3. University Hospital of Wales (Cardiff)
  4. The Royal London Hospital (Barts)
  5. Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham

Launch event in Edinburgh

In a powerful show of collaboration and commitment to inclusive research, MND-SMART and the Alan Davidson Foundation officially launched the Davidson Nurses programme last month at a special event hosted at the Edinburgh Futures Institute, the historic site of the Old Royal Infirmary.

Each nurse was honoured with a certificate of recognition at the event, celebrating their commitment to expanding reach and delivering cutting-edge research to people living with MND.
“These dedicated and highly skilled colleagues ensure much-needed equity of access to MND-SMART across the UK,” said Professor Suvankar Pal, Co-Lead Investigator for the trial.
