Q&A: Colin Reid on the Alan Davidson Foundation’s mission and the Longitude Prize on ALS

Alan Davidson Foundation Trustee Colin Reid recently spoke to the team behind the Longitude Prize on ALS, a global challenge prize designed to accelerate innovation in the search for effective treatments for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

In the interview, Colin shares the Foundation’s ambition to help make ALS preventable or curable through pioneering research and open collaboration. He highlights how the spirit of creativity and innovation embodied by the Prize mirrors the Foundation’s broader mission to support originality and progress in science, architecture, and the arts.

Colin encourages innovators from all backgrounds to be bold and collaborative, noting that even unconventional ideas can drive breakthroughs and make a lasting contribution to the ALS research community. He also emphasises the power of open innovation, where cross-disciplinary collaboration and shared knowledge can accelerate discoveries far beyond traditional research methods.

Applications for the Longitude Prize on ALS are open until 3 December 2025.
