Trustees attend a special dinner in honour of Euan MacDonald

Trustees Caite Healy and Jane Craik attended a very special dinner in Edinburgh on Wednesday 8th October, to celebrate the many successes of the Euan MacDonald Centre Founder, Euan MacDonald.

The dinner was part of a two-day research symposium (8th – 9th October) hosted in honour of Euan.

Euan MacDonald lived with MND for over 20 years and died in 2024. The Centre Euan founded, with his businessman father Donald, continues to flourish and has about 250 researchers across Scotland. The Centre leads major research and translational initiatives including MND-SMART, a pan-UK ground-breaking platform trial, as well as the digital speech technology company SpeakUnique. To honour and build upon his legacy, the scientific symposium will also feature a public session showcasing Euan’s many achievements, which include founding the disabled access charity Euan’s Guide.

Caite and Jane attended the ‘Euan’s Legacy’ session and reception which took place during the afternoon of the 8th October. They had the pleasure of meeting with other funders, scientists and PhD students working tirelessly on MND research.

It is an exciting time for the sector with greater understanding of the biology of MND and related neurodegenerative disorders leading to many more clinical trials and the promise of meaningful breakthroughs in diagnostics and therapies. The Alan Davidson Foundation is proud to part fund the MND-SMART trial.
